5 Reasons to have a Tooth Extraction

Share

Tooth extraction is a dental procedure of permanently removing the tooth from its socket. While it is the last option resorted to, sometimes the tooth may have to be extracted.

At Dr. Joy Dental Clinics, our goal is to avoid any extractions, however, if it is unavoidable, our highly skilled and experienced Oral Surgeons can remove the teeth with minimal discomfort.

There are two types of dental extractions:

  1. Simple Extractions – this is when the tooth is visible and is removed under local anaesthesia.
  2. Surgical Extractions – are done when the tooth cannot be accessed as in when it is broken below the gum line or impacted under the gums or bone. In this case, the surgeon will expose the tooth and remove it surgically. This can be done under local anaesthesia or in some cases under General Anaesthesia if multiple impacted teeth are removed at the same time.

A tooth extraction should be the last option that is considered. Our dentists would recommend it, only in case there are no other options.

When do you need a Tooth Extraction?

A person has two sets of teeth. The milk teeth appear in childhood and are replaced later by permanent teeth.

Permanent is not replaced and is meant to last a lifetime. However, they might have to be extracted due to the following reasons:

1. Irreversible damage to the tooth due to severe decay

This happens when the dental decay is not treated in time and it reaches the centre of the tooth, which is the pulp. This can usually be treated with root canal treatment by our Endodontists. However, in some cases, the infection can be severe and the tooth may have to be extracted to prevent the infection from spreading.

Whether it requires a root canal treatment or a dental extraction, our dentists at Dr. Joy Dental Clinics, Dubai will offer you the safest, painless, and most comfortable solution.

 2. Extensive periodontal disease

Periodontal Disease

Periodontal disease is an infection of the gums, periodontal ligaments, alveolar bone, and other structures surrounding the teeth. The earliest stage of periodontal disease is gingivitis which is an infection of the gums. The more severe kind of periodontal disease affects the periodontal ligaments and the alveolar bone.

Uncontrolled periodontal disease leads to loss of the supporting bone causing loosening of the tooth. This may require the tooth to be extracted.

At Dr. Joy Dental Clinics Dubai, our Hygienists and Periodontists are highly skilled in controlling and treating periodontal disease using advanced Periodontal therapy programs, that will restore the health of your gums and support tooth structures. Regularly brushing and flossing your teeth and visiting your dentist can help prevent Periodontal disease.

3. Having an impacted tooth

impacted tooth

An impacted tooth refers to a tooth that has not erupted out of the gum line or has only partially erupted. This is commonly seen in wisdom teeth. Impacted teeth may cause misalignment or displacement of neighbouring teeth. It may also cause infection, tender or bleeding gums, pain, and difficulty opening the mouth.

At Dr. Joy Dental Clinic Dubai, our Oral Surgeons are highly experienced in removing impacted wisdom teeth most painlessly and comfortably. We provide sedation if required to make the procedure more comfortable. In case multiple impacted teeth are removed in the same appointment, it can be done under General Anaesthesia. We also have advanced technologies such as CBCT Scanner by which the surgeons can see the scan of the bone and tooth to plan the surgery precisely

4. To eliminate teeth overcrowding

Eliminate-Teeth-Overcrowding

In some cases, the jaw is not able to accommodate all the teeth causing severe crowding. Patients who are undergoing orthodontic treatment to align the teeth may require extractions to create space in these cases.

At Dr. Joy Dental Clinic Dubai, our Orthodontists use the latest techniques to avoid extractions as much as possible.

5. In case of injury or accident

In case of an accident, where there is trauma to the teeth causing damage and loosening, the first option is always to preserve the teeth. Dental bonding, crowns, bridges, or veneers may be recommended. However, if the damage is extensive, tooth extraction may be required to prevent further damage to the neighbouring teeth.

At Dr. Joy Dental Clinic Dubai, our team of Specialist dentists is trained to treat emergency dental treatments.
