The Disadvantages of Lingual Braces
1.Most Expensive Option
Lingual Braces are the most expensive braces option on the market, because the cost of the brace itself is higher. Unlike traditional braces, the brackets are custom made for each patient and the wires are also pre-formed for patients from Germany, which increases the cost. Another reason they are more expensive is because the orthodontists need to undergo specialized training to learn the technique and as they aren’t quite as accessible as traditional braces, adjustment appointments require more time.
2. Extra Effort
With this style of braces, you will need to pay more attention to brushing, flossing and overall better cleaning between your teeth. Adjustments will need to be made in the way you eat to avoid anything hard, chewy, crusty – essentially anything that could dislodge one of your brackets. If a bracket does come off, you will need to re-visit the orthodontist.
3. Discomfort
The inside of your mouth is not the most spacious place, so the addition of a brace can take some getting used to. During the first week, you will become accustom to having the brace there, where there may be some soreness or irritation on your tongue, but by each passing day it will become more comfortable. You will receive a special wax to put on top of the brackets to relieve any areas that by become irritated or rub.
